Make a difference, think FAST.

Unfortunately, many people’s lives are touched by the impact of a stroke. 

The team at Starfish believe it is very important to understand the signs and symptoms of a stroke – so you can make able to make a difference. 

FAST is a very important campaign to educate New Zealanders about the key signs of stroke.  As the signs and symptoms of a stroke come on quickly – it is essential to act fast, and call 111 immediately. 

The following has been published by the Stroke Foundation of New Zealand.   'Please do take the time to read this, it could save someone’s life.

Common first signs of stroke include:

  • Sudden weakness and/or numbness of face, arm and/or leg especially on one side of the body
  • Sudden blurred or loss of vision in one or both eyes
  • Sudden difficulty speaking or understanding what others are saying
  • Sudden loss of balance or an unexplained fall or difficulty controlling movements, especially with any of the other signs

FACE - Is their face drooping on one side? Can they smile?
ARM  - Is one arm weak? Can they raise both arms?
SPEECH - Is their speech jumbled or slurred? Can they speak at all?
TIME  - Time is critical. Call 111.
